I really had to have a good think about whether to set up this website. I am a real animal lover, I’m extremely picky about the meat I eat (ask my mother-in-law, it drives her mad), I prefer animals to people and we have loads of pets in our garden, (chickens, guinea pigs , rabbits to name just a few). I’m so soppy about creatures that I even rescue flies from spider webs. There were 2 things that confirmed it was the right thing to do.

Number One. Sheepskins are a natural product and have so many benefits. My little girl won’t have her nap without her “feece”. I use them when I’m doing long journeys in the car, on my office chair (there’s one under my bottom now!), on our sofa, on our garden chairs. Everywhere.

Number Two. The lambs/sheep are already dead. They have been killed for their meat and the skins would go to waste. I would NOT sell them if the animals had been killed for their skins. Sheepskin fleeces are a by-product of the meat industry.

So, now we’ve got the awkward bit out of the way, let's get on and talk about Fine Fleeces. I launched my original website (www.inpeakcondition.com) when my first daughter was 1 year old. I didn’t want to go back to work in an office once I’d had her so I decided to do something from home. It was while running In Peak Condition that a former colleague of mine introduced me to sheepskins. I discovered how well my daughter she slept on them and she would go off to sleep straight away. I then used them in her buggy and on the floor when she wanted to play. I decided to get one for myself and took one with me on a long car journey to Switzerland. I usually get a numb bum when I travel but not this time, it was great. My husband tried to steal it from me as he was uncomfortable but no way was I sharing it (even though he was driving). I started recommending them to my friends and family and that’s when I decided I liked them enough to sell them online.

I found a fantastic company in Somerset. Formed in 1982 and now one of Europe’s leading woolskin tanners, finishers and manufacturing processors. They are proudly continuing the South West of England’s tanning traditions begun by the Clark and Morland families over 200 years ago. Over the last 25 years they have worked with many of the world’s top design houses, retailers and young designers in developing new fashion, footwear, furnishings and furniture ranges. They are major suppliers of sheepskin to manufacturers, civil and military aviation contractors, prestigious car makers as well as medical and childcare specifiers.

Fine Fleeces is a small family run company based in Aspley Guise, an idyllic village in Bedfordshire. With children, animals and husbands to look after we can’t always get to the phone but please leave a message and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. We send your orders out within 48 hours and we are always happy to give advice.

I would like to be able to thank my daughter Ruby but as usual she decided that she did not want to smile in a single photo. 20 photos taken and the mouth did not turn upwards once. Never mind, I will get my own back in 10 years time when I pick her up from her school discos just in time to ruin the slow dances.
